Either way Registering to vote, or swearing an oath of office its still pleadging an allegence to the United State, a Government. I remember not being able to say the pleade of Allegence in grade school, again how is this any differant? For those who say its part of their job, my dad was DF'd back in the early 90's because the company he worked for made military parts and had Government contracts.

Can a JW be a Notary Public?
by Wordly Andre ini am not sure how it is in other states but in california you have to raise your right hand and take the oath of office, in that oath you swear or affirm to the best of your ability, preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the united states and the laws of the united states so help me god.
is there a conflict for jw's on this?
jw do not serve in public offices, a notary by law is a public office, due to the fact that you swear to protect and defend the constitution you are saying that you are allies with the united states.

When Your Beliefs Are Challenged, How Do You React?
by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 { font-family: arial; font-size: 18px; color: #0000cc; } .style2 { font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; } .style3 {font-family: verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: italic; } .style4 {color: #000000} --> when your beliefs are challenged, how do you react?when individuals question or challenge you about your beliefs, how do you react?
as a jehovahs witness, many individuals became touchy when questions directed .
toward the watchtower society did not fit the popular conception, thought or ideal.

I sometime turn it around on them, ask them to prove that there is a god, you can't see him, you can't hear him, everything that you know came from man? well then when they say well I just believe in my heart, then I tell them well thats how I feel about my beliefs, and you can't change my heart. usually ends the converstation

Harry Potter and the Superstitious Dubbies(not Dobbie)
by undercover in(this thread is inspired in part by fifi40's thread about battling her ex-husband in letting their son go see the new hp movie.).
still having contact with jw family and some jw friends that i grew up with, it's interesting to see their reaction when conversations come up about the hp books and movies.. my jw mother-in-law snorted and grunted her disapproval and locked herself in her bedroom while visiting while i was watching one of the movies.
i was watching it when she came in from shopping with other family members and i wasn't about to turn it just because she was in the room.. my brother, dfd but not free of the control of the wts, expressed shock that i had read all the books and commented on them being "demonic".

I had some JW family stay at my house ONCE! I had to remove my Harry Potter books from the room that they were sleeping in, how silly is that? I think Harry Potter books and movies are very good for kids, hey what ever gets this generation to read is ok with me!

Demon Experiences
by gumby ini believe that in the past i've started threads about ghosts and such but i haven't started one about me asking others if they have had a personal experience with a demon.. a couple of days ago i was talking to my dub son-in-law about how i wish i could believe in the unseen....such as ghosts, the paranormal, or anything out of the ordinary.. he said to me......"well what about demon stories"?
he related some stories that were given at an assembly from some who were greatly bothered by demons, mostly from africa.. so, what are we to make of those with such stories?
are they lying?

30 Minute Public Talk-CONFIRMED
by stillajwexelder ini can confirm (as there seems to be some doubt) at the service meeting last night during the item about the new watchtower, a letter was read by the po.
the public talk is to be 30 minutes long.
this is to allow for more association and ministry.. lengthy negative introductions about the state of the system of things/deep last days etc are to be heavily curtailed.

Dear Dad
by Qcmbr ina father was walking past his son's bedroom and saw, to his surprise, that the room was tidy and the bed made.
then he noticed an envelope propped up on the pillow with the word 'dad' on the outside.
with a trembling hand he opened the envelope and read the enclosed letter: .

my dad wouldn't have finished the letter and would have jumped in his car to hunt my ass down! I would have still gotten a beating for making shit up.

Ok wait what is the differnce to being a register voter and the whole Malowi thing, they just needed political cards right? The fact remains that Notary is still a public office, your commission term is good for 4 years just like the president, you can not turn anyone away from your service based on religion, sex, race, etc. as long as they pay the fee. Why can't they DF for being a Notary?????
